Cherokee County Jail Roster

The Cherokee County jail roster is a public resource that lists individuals currently held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center in Georgia. CherokeeCourt.us can help you find publicly available information about current and recent inmates. You can also access jail roster data through the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office website, by calling the jail directly, or by visiting in person. A jail roster search lets the public confirm whether someone is in custody, view charges, and check bond status. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office maintains the roster, updates it regularly, and hosts it online through its official jail list portal.

There are several ways to look up someone currently held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

Online Search

  1. Visit the Cherokee County Jail List on the Sheriff's Office website.
  2. Enter the inmate's last name, first name, or both into the search fields provided.
  3. Review the results, which display the inmate's name, booking date, charges, arresting agency, and bond information.

Find Cherokee Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created each time an individual is processed into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. During intake, jail staff generate a record that typically includes:

  • Booking number
  • Date and time of booking
  • Charges filed at the time of arrest
  • Arresting agency (such as CCSO, Canton Police, or another local agency)
  • Bond amount or hold status

The most direct way to access current booking records is through the online jail list. Each entry on the roster reflects the data recorded at booking, including charge descriptions and case numbers.

If you need records beyond what the online roster displays — such as incident reports, arrest reports, or historical booking data — you can submit an open records request to the Sheriff's Office. Under the Georgia Open Records Act, public records are available for inspection and copying unless specifically exempted by law. Requests can be initiated through the Records page on the Sheriff's Office website or by calling 678-493-4140.

For individuals who have been transferred to state custody, the Georgia Department of Corrections offender query tool allows you to search by name for people currently in the state prison system.

Search the Cherokee Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The Cherokee County jail roster supports two primary search methods:

Search by Name

  • Enter the inmate's last name in the search field. Adding the first name narrows results.
  • Use the exact legal spelling. Nicknames and aliases may not return results.
  • If you are unsure of the spelling, try a partial last name — the system may return all names that begin with the letters you entered.

Search by Booking Number

  • If you have a booking number from a prior lookup, court document, or bond paperwork, enter it directly for a precise match.

If Your Search Returns No Results

There are several reasons an inmate may not appear on the roster:

  • The person may have already been released or bonded out.
  • The person may not yet have been fully processed into the system.
  • The name may be spelled differently than expected — try alternate spellings or check for hyphenated names.
  • The person may be held at a different facility or may have been transferred to state custody. Check the Georgia Department of Corrections offender search if you suspect a transfer.
  • Juvenile records are excluded from the public roster entirely.

If you still cannot locate someone, call the detention center at 678-493-4200 and ask staff to confirm whether the individual is currently in custody.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Cherokee

The Cherokee County jail roster is updated on a regular basis as inmates are booked in and released. However, there are practical limitations to be aware of:

  • Processing delays: After an arrest, it may take several hours for a new booking to appear on the online roster. The intake process — which includes fingerprinting, photographing, and entering charge information — must be completed before the record is published.
  • Release lag: When an inmate bonds out or is otherwise released, their record may not disappear from the roster immediately.
  • Current custody only: The online roster reflects people who are currently held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. It is not an archive of all past bookings. Once someone is released, their listing is typically removed.
  • Data accuracy: The roster displays information as entered at the time of booking. An arrest does not mean the inmate has been convicted. Charges may be modified, dropped, or upgraded after the initial booking entry.
  • Holds for other agencies: Some inmates listed on the roster may be held on behalf of another jurisdiction. In those cases, bond information may show "No Bond" or "Hold for Another Agency."

For court case information, scheduled hearings, or case disposition details beyond what the jail roster provides, check with the Cherokee County Clerk of Courts. If you need to request restriction or expungement of a criminal history record, the Sheriff's Office provides information about that process under OCGA § 35-3-37 on its website.
